Forging Ahead in the New Year
Spring semester is underway at our respective institutions. We are hopeful for a return to some semblance of life as we knew it before the new year is through. At the same time, we anticipate continuing to reach out virtually to our alumni and donors not able to join us on campus, long after the threat of COVID-19 has lifted. We have become more innovative and flexible – something worth celebrating! Perhaps at no other juncture has the expression “necessity is the mother of invention” been so clearly appreciated.
In that spirit, this issue begins a new series of spotlights on ICAA members who have found success keeping their alumni and donors connected during the pandemic. We are thrilled to showcase them and look forward to featuring others in the coming months.
Happy reading!
Engagement Spotlight
Ohio Wesleyan University
OWU’s Women of Ohio Wesleyan program began in 2016 and pivoted to a virtual format in response to COVID-19. Building on previous success promoting networking and community among its alumnae, OWU welcomed over 230 participants for a virtual WOW event in November 2020. Participants left inspired, motivated, empowered, and more connected to Ohio Wesleyan and each other.
Two additional engagement opportunities have spun-off from the event – a bi-monthly speaker series as well as a mentor/mentee program that includes students, young and seasoned alumni. In the words of a Class of 2014 alumna, “WOW fills me with the same spirit of community and mentorship I felt when I was on campus and always leaves me energized to return to my personal and professional life with fresh perspectives.”
Internally, this event has helped to cultivate and steward alumnae donors, uncovered new volunteers and donors, and created a unique bond amongst women of Ohio Wesleyan.
